All Weather School

Frogston Primary School is an all weather school. The children go outside to play and learn in almost all weathers.

Learning to enjoy being outside in all weather is great for everyone! It boosts children’s immunity, their mental health, and their physical development. And, if you only wait for great weather to go outside in Scotland, then you are at risk of spending a lot of time indoors.

Diverse weather conditions foster resilience, creativity, and sensory exploration, while reducing stress and improving focus. Experiencing rain, wind, and cold first-hand teaches children about seasons, cause-and-effect, and environmental changes. Being outside also provides crucial Vitamin D and promotes healthy motor skills regardless of the season.

We believe that there is ‘no bad weather, only the wrong clothing’. Therefore, children are encouraged to wear sturdy, water-proof shoes and bring a coat every day. We do keep spares at school and have very well stocked Eco Store, consisting of donated clothing and unclaimed lost property. All families are encouraged to make use of our Eco Store, where school uniforms, coats, waterproofs, shoes and wellies can be taken for free!
