Reading

At Frogston, we are very lucky to have a fabulous new reading scheme called Reading Planet. Your child has been engaging with these books since August and we feel it is now time to start sharing this essential aspect of learning with you at home.

As a trial, we are going to start sending books home the second week after our Easter break. If this is successful, we will continue sending books home after the summer holidays. Some of you may know that Reading Planet has an online home learning platform, however, we are keen to pursue ‘real’ books going home before considering an online approach at home.

The book coming home will be the one being used each day in class, too, so please encourage your child to take responsibility for ensuring their reading book is back in their bag each morning before coming to school. We have ordered lovely book bags that will help your child keep their book clean and safe as it travels to and from school.

Each year group will have a slightly different schedule regarding days for books being changed and how long one book is used for. Class teachers will share this information with you in their website update following Easter.

We are in a constant cycle of assessment and our class teachers carefully ensure the reading book level is correctly matched to your child’s current learning needs. Please see the Reading Progression Pathway documents to find an overview of the range of wider reading skills your child will be experiencing through their reading book and other class reading experiences.
